The Gregson celebrated 25 years in November 2008.
BACKGROUND
Although International Women's Day has been an annual celebration for almost 100 years, in recent years little has taken place in the Lancaster and Morecambe district to mark this event.
On 8th March 2009 six women got together at The Gregson to informally mark the day. As a result of this, it was agreed to meet on a monthly basis and make the group open to any woman in the district who wished to attend. Initially, the group met to discuss a range of issues and topics but, after meeting 2-3 times, and more women becoming involved, it was decided to also organise an event for International Women's Day 2010.
Since the 2010 IWD WAGs have organised IWD 2011 and are now working towards IWD 2012.
Instead of meeting on set dates monthly WAGs now meet regularly, but for specific reasons, ie. planning cultural away days or fundraising for ourselves or other women's groups.

FUTURE PLANS
1. WAG will continue to provide a forum for women to meet and discuss issues relevant to their lives through monthly meetings.
2. Over the coming months WAG will organise an event for International Women's Day 2010, and work with other individuals and organisations organising complementary events.
3. Feedback from 1 and 2 above will inform and guide future activities and events that WAG will organise or become involved with.
